Journey to Lomio: Crafting the Future of Travel

After wrapping up several years of crafting social media ads and website graphics, I sought something new and challenging. That's when an opportunity knocked on my door—a project for a travel app still in the concept phase, without a name or brand identity. The challenge was irresistible, and I dove headfirst into it. One of our first milestones was securing the perfect domain, lomio.com, and setting a solid foundation for our venture. This step marked the beginning of my journey with Lomio, allowing me to play a pivotal role in shaping the brand and, by extension, influencing the future of travel. This was a unique opportunity not just to create a brand identity from scratch but also to contribute significantly to redefining travel experiences.

Our journey to create Lomio began with a commitment to understanding. Before a single line of code was written or a design drafted, we immersed ourselves in the world of our users. Through interviews, surveys, and analysis, we sought to uncover the pain points and desires that define the travel planning experience. What emerged was a clear picture of the modern traveler: tech-savvy yet time-starved, seeking both convenience and customization. This deep dive into the user's psyche informed every aspect of Lomio's development. It guided our design principles, ensuring that Lomio was not just a tool, but a trusted travel companion. By prioritizing features that offered real value, such as comprehensive trip planning in three clicks, we ensured that our solution was grounded in genuine user needs and desires.

Lomio caters to a diverse range of travelers, illustrated by personas like Mia and David. Mia represents our youthful, tech-savvy users who seek a travel experience that combines style with functionality. On the other hand, David embodies the busy professionals in search of swift, reliable travel solutions that are consolidated into one straightforward service. Together, Mia and David highlight Lomio's wide-ranging appeal: we attract social media-savvy adventurers as well as business travelers in need of efficient and dependable planning. Our service stands out by providing convenience, customization, and reliable support to meet the varied needs of our clients.

The Process

Turning our idea into a real product was exciting. I used Figma, a tool I was learning, to create designs. We improved our idea by talking to people, having many discussions, and making lots of changes. Building the first basic version of our product was a step-by-step process that taught us a lot. When it launched earlier than planned, it did better than we hoped. This showed how well working together and keeping at it can pay off.

MyTravel: A Spin-off with a Twist

MyTravel: A Spin-off with a Twist

From the start, we aimed to create a strong and adaptable foundation for Lomio. This began with selecting an icon library that would evolve into a comprehensive design component library. More than assembling elements, we developed a scalable design language that grew with Lomio. Our consistent updates to the design library ensured efficiency and uniformity in our design process. These efforts have paved the way for converting our design tools into code, establishing a versatile design system applicable across different brands. This system not only facilitates Lomio's development but also supports future projects. A highlight was creating 'MyTravel,' a product adapted from Lomio for a new market. This demonstrated our design strategy's flexibility and opened up new growth avenues by catering to distinct user needs with the same core design.

In shaping Lomio, we integrated an interactive design system with reusable components that streamlined our prototyping process. This approach enabled the rapid and consistent creation of prototypes that matched our brand identity, simplified the move from design to development, and flexibly accommodated our product's evolving requirements.

This platform and its expansion into MyTravel showcase the remarkable outcomes of combining visionary design with strategic execution. As a living, evolving entity, Lomio invites users to a new way of experiencing travel planning, emphasizing ease and enjoyment.

Creating Lomio has been a highlight of my career, challenging my design abilities, teaching me about product development, and highlighting the importance of understanding users' needs. The process, from naming the product to seeing our concepts become digital reality, has been full of learning about innovation, teamwork, and dedication. Watching Lomio succeed and expanding our efforts to MyTravel has been incredibly fulfilling. These projects prove the success of combining clear vision with detailed design and careful planning. They are continuously improving and inviting users to try a new way of planning their travels. We encourage everyone to try out Lomio and provide feedback on MVP 2 in our test environment.
